When Kasa Keyboard first launched, the mission was simple but crucial, to build a seamless way for us to type, connect, and express ourselves in our own languages, starting with Eʋe and expanding from there. Seeing so many of you use the keyboard daily to chat with family, friends, and colleagues has been incredibly rewarding.
But as the Kasa community has grown, a clear and recurring theme has emerged from your messages, reviews, and feature requests. Typing the language is great, but what if you are just starting to learn it? What if you are living abroad and want a way to teach your children their mother tongue? What if you want to brush up on conversational phrases before a trip back home?
For a while now, an idea has been brewing behind the scenes to solve exactly that.
Enter: Kasa Learning Systems (Working Title)
I am thrilled to share the early vision for a brand-new companion app: Kasa Learning Systems.
Instead of just giving you the tools to type, Kasa Learning Systems is being designed to give you the tools to speak, understand, and connect. The goal is to build a language learning experience that doesn’t feel like a rigid textbook, but rather an engaging, culturally rich, and highly practical journey into our languages.
Here is a glimpse of what is currently on the drawing board:
- Bite-Sized, Practical Lessons: Focusing on how people actually speak today—from everyday greetings and market negotiations to essential social phrases.
- High-Quality Native Audio: Perfecting pronunciation and mastering tones using clear audio recorded by native speakers, completely avoiding robotic text-to-speech.
- Cultural Connections: Learning a language is about understanding the people. The app will feature context cards diving into the traditions, history, and food tied to the words you are learning.
- Seamless Kasa Integration: A frictionless loop where you learn a new phrase in the learning app, and immediately put it to use chatting with your friends using Kasa Keyboard.
This Is Where You Come In
Kasa Keyboard was built on your feedback, and this new app will be no different. I am building this for you, which means I need to build it with you.
Before the first line of code is finalized, I want to hear your thoughts. You are the earliest insiders on this project, and your input will directly shape what Kasa Learning Systems becomes.
I would love to know:
- Which languages or specific dialects would you want to see supported first?
- What is the biggest frustration you’ve faced when trying to learn our local languages using other methods?
- What features would make an app like this a “must-have” on your phone?
Please drop your thoughts, ideas, and honest feedback in the comments below, or reach out directly. Let’s build something resourceful, influential, and truly our own.
